Dr Andrew Johnstone

Dr Andrew Johnstone

Veterinarian 
Andrew graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1979 and after working in a large, mixed animal practice in Geelong, he was drawn north of the border, migrating to Deniliquin. Andrew is an accredited pregnancy tester and also an examiner for the NCPD (National Pregnancy Diagnosis Scheme). He is also APAV accredited and is involved in the bio-security aspects of managing herd health issues such as Johnes Disease. His other interest lies in sheep health and he is an Accredited Veterinarian in the management of Ovine Johnes disease, Ovine Brucellosis and foot rot. Andrew busies himself in the Clinic as well with the maintenance of contented clients and the provision of a high quality service to an increasingly diversified area.

Dr Nigel McMahon

Dr Nigel McMahon graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2003. He worked in Dairy/ Mixed practice at the Cobram Veterinary Clinic for 4 years and then a number of locum positions for the next two. This included intensive small animal practice in Adelaide, and extensive beef practice in Charleville and Charters Towers, Queensland. He then moved to Holbrook, NSW to work in a Mixed practice before taking a year off to travel around Australia with his wife Alice. Nigel returned to his hometown Deniliquin at the end of 2011 to begin work at the Deniliquin Veterinary Clinic. He is an accredited NCPD (National Cattle Pregnancy Diagnosis) pregnancy tester and has completed a post graduate course in Ruminant Nutrition. Nigel is passionate about the surgical repair of wounds and orthopaedic injuries, and finds it especially rewarding when he has an injured patient return to work.

Dr Lauren Kelly graduated from Melbourne University in 2001. In February 2002, she began work at Deniliquin Vet Clinic and has been here ever since! Since moving to Deniliquin Lauren married Vincent in 2005 and has had 3 children; Mitchell in 2009, Grace in 2012 and Piper in 2016. After 3 periods of Maternity leave and now working part-time, Lauren’s passion for mixed practice has morphed into a focus on small animals – for the time being. Her particular interests are soft-tissue surgery, especially facial and ocular surgery, small animal medicine and behaviour. She does miss her cows, though, so expect to see her back on some farms once the children are at school!

Dr. John Anstee

Associate Veterinarian

John Anstee graduated from Charles Sturt University in 2016 where he was exposed to and enjoyed all aspects of the veterinary profession, gaining experience not only in Australia but also abroad. He brings skills and passion for both production and companion animal medicine and surgery. He has been welcomed to Deniliquin as part of the Vet Clinic team and has also integrated himself into the local Deni Rams Football Club. Beef producers can be sure that John’s reproductive advice and bull testing expertise are on a skyward trajectory with gaining valuable experience testing large numbers in Quirindi as part of our involvement with Apiam Animal Health. He will also be inspecting the mouths of many of our local equine patients as one of our resident Equine Dental Vets here at DVC.

Dr. Zoe Sleigh

Zoe is a Veterinary graduate from the University of Adelaide, 2017. Originally from a farm near Jerilderie, she has made the move back this way after six years in South Australia and began work at the Deniliquin Veterinary Clinic in January 2018. Zoe brings with her a passion for working with rural people and their animals, be it on farm or in clinic. Zoe has had exposure to many different species through a range of university practicals and placements around Australia and abroad. Outside of work you might see her having a run on the netball court or out and about with her wirehaired pointer “Teddy”.

Hope is a Veterinary graduate from Charles Sturt University Wagga Wagga. Hope is passionate about rural mixed practice. When not working Hope enjoys playing sport and caring for her pet lambs. You may see her out and about with her Border Collie ‘Pip’ or riding her horse ‘Nelly’.

Tracey’s organisational skills keep the appointments running on time and the clients happy. Tracey was a hairdresser before starting at the clinic so her skills with the scissors come in very handy at times. Her other interests include following her 2 sons playing sport particularly AFL on the weekends, water skiing, restoring her house and caring for her aged Boxer called Jazz. Tracey is a golfing widow on the weekends in the summer as her husband David is a keen golfer. Her recent trip to America has given Tracey the taste for travelling with more trips planned for the future.

Rebecca Oddy

Vet Nurse 

In 2006 Rebecca began her role as a vet nurse and has completed her Diploma of Veterinary Nursing, Certificate II and IV in Veterinary Nursing. She loves the daily challenges in the clinic and the opportunity to work closely and care for so many loved animals. Rebecca’s interests in the clinic are canine, feline and equine focused and include wound management, emergency and critical care, orthopaedic surgical nursing, post-operative care and rehabilitation. Rebecca’s skills and responsibilities within the clinic include managing the clinics laboratory, maintaining the surgical suite and assisting with procedures. Rebecca recently completed a continuing education course in small animal endocrine and cardiology nursing. Her career highlight so far is being nominated for the 2013 vet nurse of the year by her fellow employees. Many animals reside at Rebecca’s house including her performance horses.

Anna commenced with Southern Riverina Vets in our Deniliquin Clinic in January 2012, after completing a Bachelor of Business degree at La Trobe University in Melbourne. Anna enjoys working with the variety of species that visit the clinic. Anna has a Labrador called “Peggy”, a Labradoodle “Polly” and the occasional pet lamb. Anna lives with her husband and two children on the family property in Deniliquin; her husband is a busy farmer with rice, sheep and cattle. Anna is growing accustomed to the hot weather in Deniliquin after growing up in Launceston, Tasmania. Anna is currently working one day a week.

Elise joined the Deniliquin Clinic in 2015 after relocating back to Deniliquin from Charleville. With years of experience as a veterinary nurse and previously running her own home and pet care business Elise has quickly slotted into the clinic. Elise’s special interests include surgery and large animal work specifically equine. Elise has an array of pets at home ranging from a quarter horse, welsh riding pony, dogs, cats and not forgetting her lop eared bunny rabbit. Interests outside work include family time, fishing and motorbike riding. Rounding it off Elise also competes in barrel racing, campdrafting and horsemanship clinics.

Penny Henson has settled in to Deniliquin Vet Clinic well indeed. She is undertaking a traineeship with us and studying Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing via Tafe. Penny did work experience and volunteer work with us all the way through school so were are extremely excited she decided to follow her passion and join the team.

Natalie commenced with the Deniliquin Clinic in 1999 and at that time launched into studying Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. Natalie is an extremely versatile member of our team and coordinates the Deniliquin Vet Clinic’s busy grooming and clipping service as well as being a competent and caring veterinary nurse. She will take the time to get to know you and your animal.

Nat has a special affinity with the feline species and works passionately to find homes for any cats that have lost their owners, even if it means taking the odd one home. The Lea family is an enthusiastic member of the Deniliquin Pony Club.
